- Infrastructure — the full stack: cloud, network, data center, identity, services, and all relationships between them.
- Operating — not static. Continuously active, updated, validated, and enforced as the environment changes.
- Model — a structured, explainable representation of reality: dependencies, ownership, allowed states, and impact of change.
A record vs. an authority
Most infrastructure tools describe the environment. Very few govern it. Authoritative means the model is the deciding layer.
It defines what your environment is permitted to be, validates whether a proposed change aligns to that definition before execution, and produces evidence that the environment remained in its authorized state — the difference between a record of what happened and an authority over what is allowed to happen.
